what_to_ask_a_yacht_sales_consultant_before_you_buy

Buying a yacht is not a single decision, it is a sequence of smaller ones, and each deserves a direct question put to the yacht sales consultant guiding the process. The right questions early save time, money and disappointment later.

For a guest with a specific vessel, region or exact week in mind, particularly around Christmas, New Year, or the height of the Mediterranean summer, contacting a charter consultant well ahead of the intended dates makes a material difference to the range of vessels genuinely available. Consultants tracking availability across multiple yachts and regions can often flag when a preferred option is close to fully booked before a guest has fully committed to dates, giving time to adjust either the vessel or the timing while options remain open.

Financial exposure is the final piece. Ownership ties capital to an asset whose value moves with the market and with the vessel's condition and maintenance history. Charter avoids that exposure entirely, trading it for a cost that is fully known in advance for any given week.

Survey is usually the first stage to take longer than anticipated. A proper condition and valuation survey involves a haul-out, a detailed inspection of hull, systems, engines and rig, and a written report that can run to dozens of pages. Scheduling the haul-out around yard availability alone can add a week or more, and the surveyor then needs time to prepare the report properly rather than rushing it.

The base fee is the headline weekly rate for the Ocean Independence yacht management and crew, typically quoted in EUR and commonly ranging from around EUR 25,000 to EUR 350,000 or more depending on vessel size, calibre and season. This figure covers the vessel and crew for the week. It does not cover fuel, food, drink, dockage, or other variable costs incurred during the charter.

None of these questions are confrontational. A consultant working properly expects them and should answer plainly. A viewing where every question gets a clear, specific answer is a strong signal in its own right.
