He is believed to be reincarnated from the first emperor, and a cadre of augurs and priests known as the Maylisshahi spend their days interpreting various omens to find the next heir, who is invariably already a favored son of the imperial family. On the 1st of January, 1700, he disappeared along with the rest of the imperial family, leaving the empire without a clear leader.
