This is an old revision of the document!

For anyone watching ingredients or allergens across a full household, check the detail printed on each product rather than assuming what is and is not suitable. The cocoa is sourced through Cocoa Horizons and the company is a member of Origin Green, with production held to BRC Grade A+ standard, for those who like to know where a gift has come from.

See the details at chocolate hampers.

What lifts either option above the usual is the finish. The chocolates are handcrafted in Newbridge, Co. Kildare, where Mary Ann O'Brien founded the company in 1992, and that shows in the way each piece is finished rather than simply moulded. A single-origin dark or a hand-finished praline carries more weight in the hand than a foil coin, even at stocking-filler size.

Most of the stress in Christmas gifting comes from timing rather than choice. The gift itself is usually settled early in your head; it is the ordering, the posting and the arriving that slip until the point where everything is against you. A short November checklist takes that pressure off before December starts.

The stocking is a small space with a lot to do. It has to hold a handful of little gifts that feel like more than an afterthought, and it has to do it for several people without repeating itself. Boiled sweets and chocolate coins have carried that job for years, but they are not the only option, and they are rarely the most memorable one.

The third thing is the address and the message. A gift sent to a workplace needs to arrive on a day the recipient is in. A gift to a home is safer if someone is likely to be there, though a boxed selection left in a porch will come to no harm in cold weather. Adding a written message at the point of ordering means the gift arrives ready to give rather than needing a separate card.
