A Character is someone who is so full of conviction they are ready to kill thousands command an army. Characters have Names, Ability Scores and Traits and are played by a Player.

For naming reference the Empire commonly uses vaguely European-sounding names, and are big fans of nominative determinism. But player Characters are, almost by definition, exceptional and may be from any part of the world with any name.

Convictions are important to Characters. Possibly there’s some bonus when acting on convictions. Some example convictions are:

• The Emperor came to me in a dream and revealed I am his heir.
• As He lived to make men holy, let us die to make men free.
• Only I can save the Empire from itself.

Characters either start at a Stronghold of their choosing¹⁾, which they are assumed to have had or recently gained control of with the armies that Stronghold can raise, or split off from an already existing army.
