Slavery & serfdom

The Eternal Empire practices slavery as punishment for various crimes and misdemeanours, with some exceptions. Prisoners of the Empire’s various overseas wars are commonly forced into servitude. Serfdom also remains the law of the land in many parts of the Empire. This is… not uncontroversial, to say the least, especially as the past century has seen liberalising ideals spread thanks to burgeoning wealth and stability.

Exceptions

The Duchy of Exemplia, being most recently ”integrated” into the Empire, was allowed to keep the practice banned in the treaty.

In the Imperial Free City, the practice is also forbidden, and by law, anyone who enters the City is freed. Not everyone agrees.
