====== The Imperial Faith ====== The imperial faith is about venerating the Emperor and the Gods, though the distinction between the two is often blurry. Historically there have been two major schools of thought, one holding the Emperor is the manifestation of various aspects of the Gods, one holding the Gods are simply aspects of the Emperor’s glory((not unlike the skills in Disco Elysium)). These days that debate is mostly held in temples, shrines and universities, but it has [[countries:eternal empire:lost decade|boiled over in the past]]. Generally speaking the Faith and its priests puts a lot of importance on performing the right rituals rather than saying (or believing) the right things. Do you perform the Sacrifice of Summer? (Traditionally a small fowl is sacrificed, these days a monetary gift to the temple is fine). Does your day start with the Contemplations of Corvidae (a ten minute sky-watching session where the patterns of birds are interpreted according to the Wisdoms of Belpaese)? Many of these rituals are focused on various forms of augury where animal behaviours and sometimes entrails are interpreted according to vast charts and tables to provide insight into the future. The Faith is polytheistic and highly syncretic: other gods are simply seen as some heretofore unknown aspect of the Emperor (or the other way around) and incorporated into the holy texts after appropriate debate among the priesthood.
