Move to history. How long has the vessel been on the market, and has the asking price moved. A consultant advising honestly will discuss market positioning rather than simply confirming the number on the listing. Ask about ownership history, any insurance claims, and whether the vessel has operated under charter, since charter use changes wear patterns compared with private use alone.

Sea trial follows, and depends on suitable weather and both parties' availability, plus the vessel being in a condition to trial safely, which sometimes means addressing an issue the survey raised first. A consultant managing the process well will build contingency into the schedule here rather than assuming the first available slot will hold.

The Caribbean season runs largely in the opposite half of the year, picking up from around November through April, driven by guests seeking warmer conditions during the northern hemisphere winter and by the Christmas and New Year period specifically, which is consistently the highest-demand window in the region. Sea temperatures in the Caribbean stay warmer and more consistent across this period than the Mediterranean does in its own shoulder seasons, which is part of what drives the seasonal shift in guest demand between the two regions.

For a first-time owner, it is worth asking early in any conversation which of these two roles the consultant in front of them is filling, since the answer shapes what they should reasonably expect from that relationship, and what belongs in a separate conversation entirely.

Taken together, a purchase that a buyer initially expects to complete in two or three weeks more realistically takes six to twelve weeks from accepted offer to completion, sometimes longer for larger or more complex vessels. A consultant who sets out this timeline honestly at the start, rather than promising a faster process to close the sale, is doing the buyer a genuine service.
