AI enthusiasts, creators, and experts are extending their expertise, investors are injecting money, and even small financial companies to tech giants like Google, VISA, Mastercard, and PayPal are being misused in this dark trade. Synthetic porn has existed for years, but advances in AI and the increasing availability of technology have made it easier—and more profitable—to create and distribute non-consensual sexually explicit material. The 2023 State of Deepfake report by Home Security Heroes reveals a staggering 550% increase in the number of deepfakes compared to 2019.
Creation may be about sexual fantasy, but it is also about power and [[https://viagrasildenafilok.com|best free porn videos]] control, and the [[https://stockhouse.com/search?searchtext=humiliation|humiliation]] of women. Men’s sense of sexual entitlement over women’s bodies pervades the internet chat rooms where sexualised deepfakes and tips for their creation are shared. As with all forms of image-based sexual abuse, deepfake porn is about telling women to get back in their box and to get off the internet. A common response to the idea of criminalising the creation of deepfakes without consent, is that deepfake pornography is a sexual fantasy, just like imagining it in your head. But it’s not – it is creating a digital file that could be shared online at any moment, deliberately or through malicious means such as hacking.

The director of a documentary about the impact of deepfake porn has said she hopes her film will help people understand the immeasurable trauma it causes. Critics have raised legal and ethical concerns over the spread of deepfake porn, seeing it as a form of exploitation and digital assault. "We refuse to tolerate the violence against women and girls that stains our society which is why we have passed legislation to ban their creation as quickly as possible." Currently, generating pornographic deepfakes is illegal when used in revenge porn or depicts children. "Sites and apps that include Generative AI tools that can generate pornographic material are regulated under the Act," the media regulator Ofcom told BBC News.
As porn sites apply new age checks, will users hand over personal ID?
We thematically analyzed a random subset of 263 requests out of the full set of 830 paid requests for deepfake videos. Two researchers independently assigned labels to the posts, and inter-rater reliability (IRR) was reasonably high with a Kupper-Hafner metric [28] of 0.72. Our study is based on crawling the public MrDeepFakes website using headless Chrome and the Selenium WebDriver. We specifically collected public forum posts and replies, metadata attached to public videos, and public user profile information in the fall and winter of 2023. We created an account to access public site data, but we did not bypass any security controls, attempt to access any private data, download any video content, or interact with forum members.

A deepfake is an image or video that has been digitally altered with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to replace the face of one person with the face of another. Under the legislation, anyone making explicit images of an adult without their consent will face a criminal record and unlimited fine. The spate of chat groups, linked to individual schools and universities across the country, were discovered on the social media app Telegram over the past week. In 2019, it was discovered that a sex ring had used the app to blackmail dozens of women and children to film pornographic content. Women's rights activists have accused South Korean authorities of allowing sexual abuse to take place on Telegram. Deepfakes are generated using artificial intelligence, and often combine the face of a real person with a fake body.
